We generally recommend sending 1-3 reminders roughly 2-7 days apart. The majority of your responses will come in within the first week, so some campuses find it effective to send reminders in a shorter time span (e.g., 3 days apart). We recommend trying different days of the week and different times of day (e.g., noon on Monday, 9 a.m. on Thursday, and 6 p.m. on Sunday). Sunday afternoons/evenings seem to be effective in capturing your audience.

If you are new to the process, try sending out your initial mailing and then give your respondents a couple of days to take the survey. On the Project Dashboard, you will see responses begin to come in in real-time. Once you see the response rate begin to plateau, you might consider sending out your first reminder. We definitely discourage sending more than 3 reminders unless the survey is mandatory for the given population. If a student does not want to take the survey, you will likely know within the first couple attempts to reach them; anything beyond that can contribute to survey fatigue.
